We're excited to announce the release of ExpressMarine 5.3, packed with new features and enhancements to streamline your workflow. Highlights of this release include:
Section Modulus Calculation – Easily compute section modulus for improved structural analysis.
New Geometry Debug Tool – Identify and resolve failed cutouts and openings.
Quickly Assign Existing Rhino Objects - Import multiple native Rhino objects into ExpressMarine in one step.
Predefined Content Library for Volumes – Select from a predefined list of content definitions to create your own volume library.
Here is more information on the new features mentioned above.
Section Modulus Calculation
You can now calculate the section modulus in ExpressMarine with just a few clicks. Simply input the X-coordinate of the section you want to analyze and click Generate. The software will automatically compute the cross-sectional area, neutral axis, and moment of inertia for the selected section. Additionally, you have the option to automatically generate a 2D drawing of the calculated section in Rhino for further analysis and visualization.

New Geometry Debug Tool for Cutout and Openings
In some cases, a cutout or opening may fail to generate because its parametric definition cannot be mathematically solved, requiring adjustments to the parameters. However, identifying these issues and determining where corrections are needed can be challenging.
With the new debugging tool, each step of the cutout attempt is now displayed in Rhino, along with relevant geometry and information at every stage of the process. This helps users pinpoint exactly where and why the opening's definition fails, making troubleshooting easier and more efficient.

Quickly Assign Existing Rhino Objects to ExpressMarine
For users working with existing Rhino models not originally created in ExpressMarine, there is now a faster way to integrate them. If you need to assign existing surfaces to ExpressMarine for weight and center of gravity calculations or exporting to ShipConstructor, you can now select all objects at once. Each surface will automatically be added as an individual node in the ExpressMarine tree, streamlining the process and saving time.

Predefined Content Library for Volumes
Rather than defining volume content types from scratch, you can now choose from a predefined library of content types. Simply select the content types that suit your needs, and if required, you can add custom content types beyond the predefined options. This streamlines the setup process while allowing for flexibility.
